Western Kenya has many attractions from different parts like
Kisumu, Kakamega, Homa Bay and many more, but I’m gonna talk about Homa Bay.
Homa Bay is just about 100km from Kisumu with quite some breathe taking sights
such as 14th Century fortress.
It is also known for its top Architectural St Paul’s
Catholic Church. If you haven’t seen this Church, please visit Homa Bay it is
very unique and beautiful. It’s round or oval in shape with hexad blocks which all
open to allow breeze in the church due to Homa Bay hot climate, it is made like
a traditional Luo hut and it opened in July 1965.
The people of Homa Bay, quite some very friendly folks to
top that they are very hard working. Labor is not an issue at Homa Bay when it
comes to earning a living. They venture in fishing, farming, business and they
are most famous for the gold ore mining at Macalder mines which are very rich in
gold and copper ores. If you happen to visit the mine, you could see women and
men all trying their very best to get that gold.
While at it you should also visit Lake Victoria which in my
opinion has quite a number of stories to tell about but leave that for another
post. Visit Lake Victoria islands like Rusinga and Mfangano to see the
lighthouse at L.Victoria Safari Village. Did you know? L.Victoria is the
largest Africa’s fresh water lake.
And finally Homa Bay is best known for the Roma National Park,
you should also visit it and see some of beautiful wildlife Kenya has to offer.
There are also other attractions like Mitei, National museum
of Kenya, Thimlich Ohinga or even see Luo culture from a different point of view,
and many more other attractions.
